Public Access to San Juan County Court Records
Colorado public access is split between ordinary government records and court case records. The Colorado Open Records Act applies to many public government records, but the Judicial Branch request form states that court file access can also be restricted by statutes, court rules, Supreme Court rules, Chief Justice Directives, local orders, and other authorities. Restricted San Juan County Court Records
Some San Juan County court records will not appear in public systems or will appear with limited fields. It also omits Social Security numbers and street addresses, treats many non-primary party roles as non-public, excludes victims, police officers, and jurors, and summarizes financial information rather than showing detailed ledgers. Public docket results also do not show DOB, address, SSN, full pleadings, or financial data.
Divorce records have a strong access limit in Colorado. State Archives says divorce records are restricted for 100 years, and for recent cases the public record is generally limited to a Decree of Dissolution of Marriage if it does not include parenting or financial agreements. Probate restrictions may apply to conservatorships, guardianships, and cases involving a minor. Adoption and mental health matters are not general public lookup categories. A person who is a party, attorney, guardian, or authorized requester should expect to show government photo ID or obtain a court order where the record is excluded from public access.
San Juan County Court Record Requests

The office has limited hours, so record searchers should call before traveling if they need a file pulled, copies certified, or a large case reviewed.
